Outspoken MSNBC host Chris Matthews tore into evangelical Christians and their “crazy ideas about Israel,” saying they hold “mythical” beliefs about the country and don’t understand its “tricky” cultural intricacies.
Matthews prefaced his remarks during a “Morning Joe” segment Wednesday by saying President Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is related to the controversial U.S. Senate candidacy of Alabama Republican Roy Moore and the upcoming election there.
“Don’t think this isn’t related to Alabama next week,” Matthews said.
“It is related, because it’s the Christian evangelicals down there with their crazy ideas about Israel, which is, I don’t know, mythical.
“Because if you don’t give the Palestinians hope that they can have national integrity and have a capital where they believe it should be, you’re going to have an unending problem,” Matthews declared.
