Darul Uloom: Posting photos on social media ‘un-Islamic’, says Darul Uloom fatwa

MEERUT: The influential Islamic seminary, Darul Uloom Deoband, has issued a 'fatwa' (edict) asking Muslims not to post their pictures on social media, days after suggesting that women should not trim their hair and eyebrows for "better looks".The seminary in Saharanpur's Deoband town has said in a decree that Muslim men and women should not upload their photos on Facebook, WhatsApp or any other social media platform while terming it "un-Islamic".

But, putting photos on social media, which is for fun, should be discouraged.

"Another religious scholar, who did not wish to be named, said, "Social media is being used to destroy age-old traditions.

"Earlier this month, the seminary had issued a fatwa against plucking, trimming and shaping of eyebrows by women.

The seminary also advised women against trimming their hair to get "better looks".
