Genetic genealogy technology leads to arrest of Cincinnati-area 'serial rapist'

William Blankenship, an alleged serial rapist, is accused of raping three people in 1999 and 2001.The Campbell County man has been indicted on multiple charges in connection to rape cases across the Cincinnati area, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said.

A man pulled the woman out of the trailer, carried her into an open field nearby, then attacked and raped her, Deters said.In Oct. 2001, a teenage female victim was attacked, pulled from her bedroom and raped behind her home.

"The technology uses genetic testing websites Gedmatch and Family Tree DNA to search for familial matches to crime scene DNA.
