President Donald Trump told Fox Business Network’s Blake Burman on Wednesday that he supports wearing masks to prevent transmission of coronavirus, but that he did not want to make wearing masks mandatory.
The president’s comments came during a White House interview that aired Wednesday.
Trump suggested in March that Americans cover their faces — at a time when few officials were advising the use of masks — but has since resisted wearing one in public.
His Democratic rival, former Vice President Joe Biden, has said that he would make the wearing of masks mandatory nationwide, though he did not explain how he would do so or whether he had the constitutional authority to impose or enforce that rule.
