Purdue University in Indiana announced its first ever gender-neutral homecoming court over the weekend, ditching “King” and “Queen” and instead opting for homecoming “Royalty.
According to the university, seniors Lily Bishop and Grant Wood were crowned “Homecoming Royalty” during homecoming festivities on Saturday.
According to the Journal & Courier, the push for a gender-neutral homecoming court was “a student-driven effort to push forward with gender equality across all platforms.”
Purdue isn’t the only major university to hold a gender-neutral homecoming this year.
Penn State plans to hold its first ever gender inclusive homecoming weekend on Oct. 13.
