House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told reporters Friday that Democrats are prepared to allow the government to shut down if Republicans do not accede to a list of Democratic demands, including legislation that protects Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients.
In September, President Donald Trump’s administration announced that it would end the DACA, program created by former President Barack Obama.
The DACA program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, allows young immigrants living in the country illegally who were brought here as children to remain in the U.S.
Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) met with President Donald Trump in September to discuss immigration and the Dream Act which protects those brought into the country illegally as children.
According to the White House, Trump, who openly opposes attaching immigration legislation to the bill, gave Congress until March 5 to come up with a fix for DACA.
