Senate Republican leaders said Tuesday they would include language in their tax reform bill that would repeal Obamacare's requirement that everyone buy health insurance.
"We are optimistic that inserting the individual mandate repeal will be helpful," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters.
"And that is obviously the view of the Senate Finance Committee Republicans as well."
Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and Patty Murray, D-Wash., would fund Obamacare insurer payments for two years in exchange for more flexibility for states to waive Obamacare regulations.
Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said during a markup of the tax bill in the Senate Finance Committee that repealing the mandate will "cause millions to lose their healthcare and millions more to pay higher premiums."
